Dr. Cynthia Bulik
is the William R. and Jeanne H. Jordan Distinguished Professor of Eating Disorders in the Department of Psychiatry in the School of Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she is also Professor of Nutrition in the School of Public Health and the Director of the UNC Eating Disorders Program. A clinical psychologist by training, Dr. Bulik has been conducting research and treating individuals with eating disorders for the past 24 years.  She received her BA from the University of Notre Dame and her MA and PhD from the University of California at Berkeley.  She completed internships and post-doctoral fellowships at the Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic in Pittsburgh, PA. She developed outpatient, partial hospitalization, and inpatient services for eating disorders both in New Zealand and in the United States. Her research has included treatment, laboratory, epidemiological, twin and molecular genetic studies of eating disorders and body weight regulation.  More recently she has begun to explore innovative means of integrating technology into treatment for eating disorders and obesity in order to broaden the public health reach of our interventions. She has active research collaborations throughout the United States as well as in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Holland, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Austria, and Germany. Dr. Bulik has written over 250 scientific papers and chapters on eating disorders and is author of the books Eating Disorders: Detection and Treatment (Dunmore) and Runaway Eating: The 8 Point Plan to Conquer Adult Food and Weight Obsessions (Rodale) and the CD-ROM EMPOWER Solution for Healthy Weight Control (www.empower-plan.com) and a soon to be released family-based internet program Food, Fun, and Fitness.  She is a recipient of the Eating Disorders Coalition Research Award and the Hulka Innovators Award. She is a past president of the Academy for Eating Disorders, a member of the Board of Directors of the Eating Disorders Coalition and is currently an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Eating Disorders. Dr. Bulik holds the only endowed professorship in eating disorders nationwide.

Nichole Grier, MD
is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Grier graduated from Harvard College in 1993 and then completed her medical degree, psychiatric residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at UNC. She has been with the UNC Eating Disorders Program since it opened in 2003 and currently serves as its medical director. She is a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

Maureen Dymek-Valentine, PhD
is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UNC Chapel Hill. (Education: BS in Psychology, University of Massachusetts, 1992, MA and PhD in Clinical Psychology, University of Alabama at Birmingham, 1999). Dr. Dymek-Valentine has been involved in the treatment and research of eating disorders for the past nine years. She is the author of numerous scientific papers and book chapters on the assessment and treatment of eating disorders and obesity. She previously served as the book reviewer and currently serves on the Scientific Program Committee for the Academy for Eating Disorders.

Maria C La Via, MD
is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at UNC Chapel Hill.  Dr. La Via received her undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Michigan State University.  She graduated from medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina where she also completed her residency in psychiatry as well as fellowships in child and adolescent psychiatry and eating disorders.  She is a board certified adult and child and adolescent psychiatrist.  Dr La Via has been treating individuals with eating disorders for 13 years, during that time she has taken an active role in research as well.  Dr La Via is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Academy for Eating Disorders.

TJ Raney, PhD
is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is a clinical psychologist with the partial hospitalization and outpatient eating disorders programs. Dr. Raney received his BA in philosophy from Darthmouth University in 1991, his MA and PhD degrees in clinical psychology from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and completed his clinical psychology internship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Prior to joining the UNC team in 2005, Dr. Raney was the Director of the Eating Disorders program at University of Arkansas for Medical Services, Department of Pediatrics. He is a member of the Academy for Eating Disorders and the Society of Adolescent Medicine.

Victoria Petrilli RD, LDN
has worked in a variety of clinical nutrition and wellness roles since she graduated from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a degree in nutrition and concentration in psychology. Currently, as the Nutrition coordinator of the UNC Eating Disorders Program, she provides group, individual, and family nutrition therapy, in addition to providing individualized nutrition plans for each patient. As a member of the research team, she has provided nutrition consultation for research studies completed by the UNC eating disorders research group. Victoria has also completed the American Dietetic Association's Weight Management certification and is completing Yale's LEARN lifestyle counselor in weight management.  In 2004, she received a Clinician Award from the Academy for Eating Disorders and is an active member of the Academy.  Victoria has presented to audiences abroad on issues of nutrition, wellness, prevention and eating disorders.

Lauri Langham, LCSW
is a clinical social worker with UNC Eating Disorders Programs.  She received her Masters Degree at the UNC School of Social Work in Chapel Hill, N.C.  She has been working with individuals and families in clinical settings for over 20 years, coming to UNC from 12 years of private practice with Counseling Services, Inc. in Durham, N.C.  Lauri has been with UNC team for the past two years.  She provides family-based treatment for patients and families.  Professional memberships include the N.C. Society for Clinical Social Work, and the Academy for Eating Disorders.

Katie Flanagan, LCSW
is one of the family therapists and the new admissions coordinator in the UNC Eating Disorders Program.  She has a BSW from Meredith College, (1994) and a MSW from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, (1998).  She has worked with UNC's Eating Disorders Program since its inception in the fall of 2003.
